The Income Tax Department has released a recruitment notification for Various posts under the Sports Quota. Eligible meritorious sportspersons can apply for the posts of Tax Assistant (TA) and Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS).
The recruitment is being conducted by the Office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, West Bengal & Sikkim Region. Interested candidates can submit their applications through offline mode. The last date to apply is 30 September 2026.

Educational Qualification
Tax Assistant
- Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised university or an equivalent qualification.
- The age limit for this post is 18 to 27 years as on 1 July 2026.
Multi-Tasking Staff
- Candidates must have passed Matriculation (Class 10) or an equivalent examination from a recognised board.
- The age limit for MTS is 18 to 25 years as on 1 July 2026.
Sports Qualification
This recruitment is exclusively for meritorious sportspersons.
Candidates must have represented a State, Union Territory, University or the country in recognised competitions, or have achieved the sports performance prescribed in the official notification.
Eligible sporting achievements include participation or medal-winning performances in recognised:
- International competitions
- National Championships
- National Games
- Inter-University competitions
- Khelo India University Games
- Khelo India Youth Games
- Khelo India Winter Games
- Khelo India Para Games
- National Sports/Games for Schools
Only sports achievements between 1 January 2022 and 30 June 2026 will be considered.
Age Limit :
- For Tax Assistant: 18 to 27 years.
- For Multi-Tasking Staff: 18 to 25 years.
- Age relaxation is available as per the applicable Government of India rules, including relaxation for eligible reserved category candidates.
Salary
Tax Assistant
Pay Level-4: ₹25,500 – ₹81,100
Multi-Tasking Staff
Pay Level-1: ₹18,000 – ₹56,900
Other applicable allowances and benefits will be provided according to government rules.
Application Fee
The official notification requires an application fee of ₹100.
Candidates should follow the prescribed payment instructions mentioned in the official notification before submitting the application.
Selection Process
The selection process includes:
- Application Scrutiny

- Ground/Field Proficiency Test
- Data Entry Skill Test for Tax Assistant candidates
- Final Merit List
Candidates will be shortlisted based on their sporting achievements and eligibility.
Tax Assistant candidates must additionally qualify in a Data Entry Skill Test requiring 8,000 key depressions per hour.
The final selection will be based on the prescribed assessment of sports performance and Ground/Field Proficiency Test marks.

Candidates must ensure that the sports certificates are issued by the competent authority prescribed for the respective level of competition.
How to Apply
- Candidates should download the prescribed application form and fill it in the required format.
- Attach a recent passport-size photograph and the required attested copies of educational, identity, age, caste and sports achievement documents.
- The completed application should be sent by Normal Post, Speed Post, Registered Post or Courier to:
- Office of the Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Headquarters (Personnel & Establishment), 1st Floor, Room No. 14, Aayakar Bhawan, P-7 Chowringhee Square, Kolkata – 700069.
- The application must reach the above address on or before 30 September 2026.
- Candidates must also complete the supplementary Google Form mentioned in the official notification. This online form does not replace the physical application.

- Only eligible meritorious sportspersons whose sports achievements fall within the prescribed period will be considered.
