India Post has released the notification for Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Online Engagement Schedule-II, July 2026. A total of 23,757 GDS vacancies are available for Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak.
Eligible candidates who have passed Class 10 can apply online. The recruitment is being conducted by the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India.

A total of 23,757 vacancies have been notified for Gramin Dak Sevak posts across different Postal Circles and Divisions.

Educational Qualification
Candidates must have passed the Secondary School Examination (10th Standard) with passing marks in Mathematics and English from a recognised Board of School Education.
Applicants must also have studied the prescribed local language up to Class 10 from a recognised board.
In addition, candidates should have:
- Knowledge of computers
- Knowledge of cycling
- Adequate means of livelihood other than the GDS allowances
The local language requirement varies by Postal Circle and post applied for.
Age Limit
- The minimum age is 18 years.
- The maximum age is 40 years as on the last date of application.
- Age relaxation is available as follows:
- SC/ST Candidates: 5 years
- OBC Candidates: 3 years
- EWS Candidates: No relaxation
- PwBD Candidates: 10 years
- PwBD + OBC Candidates: 13 years
- PwBD + SC/ST Candidates: 15 years
Salary / TRCA
- GDS employees are paid Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) along with applicable Dearness Allowance and other benefits.
- Branch Postmaster (BPM): ₹12,000 to ₹29,380
- Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) / Dak Sevak: ₹10,000 to ₹24,470
- The TRCA includes an annual increase of 3%, subject to the applicable conditions.
Application Fee
- Male candidates belonging to the General, OBC, and EWS categories have to pay an application fee of ₹100.
- The application fee is exempted for Female, SC, ST, PwBD, and trans women candidates.
- The fee can be paid online through the prescribed payment methods.
Selection Process
- There is no written examination or interview for India Post GDS recruitment.
- Selection will be based on a system-generated merit list prepared from the marks obtained in the 10th Standard examination.
- Marks are calculated up to four decimal places. Where grades or points are provided instead of marks, the prescribed conversion method will be used.
- Shortlisted candidates will subsequently have to undergo document verification and other required pre-engagement formalities.
Job Responsibilities
- Branch Postmaster (BPM)
The BPM is responsible for the overall functioning of the Branch Post Office and India Post Payments Bank-related operations.
The duties include postal operations, sale of postal products, customer service, mail conveyance and delivery, and other assigned responsibilities.
- Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
The ABPM assists the BPM in postal operations and may handle the sale of stamps and stationery, mail delivery, IPPB transactions, and other duties.
- Dak Sevak
Dak Sevaks may work in Post Offices, Delivery Centres, Sorting Offices, and other designated units. Their responsibilities include mail handling, delivery of letters and parcels, sale of stamps and stationery, and IPPB-related work.
How to Apply
- Candidates must first complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) through the official India Post GDS Online Engagement Portal.
- After registration, applicants can log in using their Registration Number and password and complete the online application.
- Candidates need to enter their personal and educational details, select the applicable Postal Circle/Division and post preferences, upload the required photograph and signature, and pay the application fee, if applicable.
- Only one registration/application is permitted per candidate. Candidates should carefully check all details before final submission.
